First time I ever visited a wormhole was soon after I began EVE. It was a quick jump-in-jump-out experience after a friend probed down a static entry and we jumped in to find it all bubbled up.
Some months later another friend found a C1 system inhabited by a solo German player. After some negotiations he agreed to allow us (a small alliance of 3 corps at the time) to move in and set up towers of our own, and so we did. Months went by, social differences and arguments caused our little alliance to split apart, and most people moved out from the wormhole - except me and the crazy German.
I remained in the C1 with my German friend's one-man (and alts) corp, and still have a POS there to this day. Over time I'd go on to learn a lot of lessons about w-space the hard way, losing a ton of ships, having my tower seiged along with numerous (failed) ransom attempts. All the while sharing these experience with my mad German neighbour. He was a crazy-industrialist, but not shy of PVP. With more money than sense he would run anoms in a faction-fit Myrm and lost one almost every week. It didn't phase him in the least though, although from each loss he'd come back twice as angry and had a habit of yelling at people who entered the system in local chat as well as naming his ships such things as "Get out here"  . He never ran from a fight though, and although he'd almost always lose we formed a strong friendship from working, living, laughing and dying together on an almost daily basis.
He was a lot of fun to live with and really knew his wormhole stuff though, I learned a great deal from him over time.
My friend eventually went inactive, said something about German Police siezing his computer (again) and trying to frame him for child **** and I never saw him online again. Probably biting pillows somewhere from the sound of it.
Since that time I've gained new neighbours in that C1, spending time sharing it with several new corps who'd come in and negotiate to live beside me, as well as returning myself from periods of inactivity to find new towers setup. That little C1 has been a fantastic experience, made a ton of weird and wonderful friends in there, learned all about what not to do, and most importantly lost a **** ton of ISK (WH's aren't about making money though, are they??  ).
These days my corp has expanded a little. We've sinced moved numerous times and lived in several other C1 and C2 systems, today we're based in a Class 2 with several other allied corporations. Despite this I've always kept a tower fueled and running in the ol' C1 for sentimental (and strategic) reasons, and always will.
